Dr. Alabata is a Gulf Coast native born and raised in Milton, Florida. He is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and an Associate of the Emerald Coast Eye Institute. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and Society of Military Ophthalmologists. Dr. Alabata's military background brings experience in many different areas of eye surgery including: cataracts with intraocular lens implant, cornea and external disease, refractive (PRK, LASIK, LASEK), glaucoma, oculoplastic (plastic surgery of the eyelids), pediatric and laser surgery.

Dr. Alabata received his Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He then completed his medical degree at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri under a full military scholarship. Prior to residency training. Dr. Alabata was a General Medical Officer for the 2nd Infantry Division in Camp Garry Owen, Korea from 1995-1996.

Dr. Alabata was a Resident and Chief Resident in the combined military Ophthalmology training program at Brooke Army and Wilford Hall Medical centers in San Antonio, Texas. During residency, he provided humanitarian support by performing free eye surgery in Santa Barbara, Honduras and Reynosa, Mexico in 1999 and 2000. Upon completion of his residency training, Dr. Alabata practiced Comprehensive Ophthalmology at Martin Army Community Hospital in Ft. Benning, Georgia where he served as chief of Ophthalmology and Acting-Chief of Surgery. He was instrumental in providing refractive surgeries for active duty personnel and started the military Warfighter Refractive Eye Surgery Program in Ft. Benning, Georgia. He instructed Physician Assistants and Family Practice Residents in eye car at Martin Army Community Hospital, and was awarded preceptor of the year for 2000-2001.

Dr. Alabata furthered his Ophthalmology career by completing a Glaucoma Fellowship Program at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He trained and staffed Ophthalmology Residents at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia with the latest developments in eye care and surgical techniques. Dr. Alabata specializes medically and surgically in the treatment of advanced glaucoma care in both pediatric and adult patients.
