Obagi Blue Peel®
 About the Blue Peel
It is an exceptional peel that achieves superlative skin resurfacing alone, or in conjunction with CO2 laser treatments. Using the Blue Peel in conjunction with laser treatments can help you make every laser treatment as effective as possible. The Blue Peel was formulated by internationally renowned dermatologist and chemical peel expert Dr. Zein Obagi. The Blue Peel safely and effectively enhances skin rejuvenation. A well-tolerated procedure, the Blue Peel rarely produces redness, erythema or inflammation. You can thus resume your normal life more quickly after a Blue Peel than after CO2 laser resurfacing or dermabrasion. The Blue Peel healing is relatively painless and occurs within seven to ten days.
What is the Obagi Blue Peel®?
The Obagi Blue Peel® is the application of a blue solution mixed with TCA (Trichloracetic Acid). Using slow acting TCA, instead of glycolic acid, the Obagi Blue Peel® allows for more control of the peel depth. The process is tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected: wrinkles, scars, laxity, and pigmentation problems. Each application removes the thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin. The layers of dead skin cells slough off and are replaced by healthier, newer cells allowing the skin's own smoothness, clarity and tightness to return. In most cases the procedure takes about 25-30 minutes. Depending upon the condition of your skin, 1-4 coats of the Obagi Blue Peel® solution will be applied. Most people do not require sedation. At each application, you will experience a mild burning sensation that lasts 2 to 3 minutes. The Obagi Blue Peel® can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, back, arms and legs. The Obagi Blue Peel® treatments can be performed in 4 week intervals until the desired correction is achieved. Annual Obagi Blue Peel® treatments assist in the long-term maintenance of skin health and fitness.
What is recovery like?
A bluish tint remains on your skin after the application and lasts approximately 12 to 24 hours, coming off as you wash. Your skin will begin to peel within 2 to 3 days and should be healed in 7 to 10 days. You may have some redness that lasts up to one month. This peeling should not disrupt your regular lifestyle.
What are the advantages?
The Blue Peel® is more comfortable than other more invasive skin resurfacing procedures. Your skin will heal faster than skin that's had lasers resurfacing, a deep chemical peel, or dermabrasion.
What are the side effects?
In a series of 100 patients who underwent one to four Blue Peels, no serious complications were observed. Scars and permanent skin color changes were not observed in any of these patients, although that remains an extremely remote and unlikely possibility. Redness can last up to one month. There are no internal toxic effects (TCA is not absorbed through the skin).

The Blue Peel is for anyone who wants to reverse the appearance of the aging process, and look and feel better. Those who have blemish-prone skin, wrinkles, pigmentation and discoloration problems, sun damage, or general poor skin quality will benefit the most.
